9 Years of Shadows is a 2D pixel-based metroidvania game. A fateful night full of sorrow and ancient magic changed a child's life forever, and it changed his life forever. Everything known to man. Fight to bring beautiful colors back to the handcrafted world of darkness, and discover the story of the young warrior Europa and her ghostly childhood friend Arpino.

Many brave souls have attempted to venture into the corrupted depths of Talos Castle, the long-abandoned orphanage from which the curse was born. All failed except one. Meet the mysterious composer who will aid in your mission. With special appearances by Michiru Yamane and Norihiko Hibino, both NPCs and composers of several tracks, it's tuned to 432hz, a soothing frequency known as healing music. There is more to music than meets the eye.

Hidden bosses with music attack mode are lurking in the dark and ready to attack. In fact, music is the link that ties gameplay and storytelling together; from collecting musical notes to playing a healing lullaby to restore your health, music is the soul of the game.
